Puppy Chow for One satisfies the craving perfectly, because resisting the temptation to gorge the entire massive bowl is a struggle!

Small Batch Puppy Chow

Puppy Chow (a.k.a. Muddy Buddies) has been my weakness for almost 20 years now. A friend introduced me to it one night when we were hanging out at her house and I’ve been hooked ever since that first sweet, delicious bite.

We all know puppy chow is best made for sharing with human friends and isn’t really puppy food. However, when those friends aren’t around to help you eat it, resisting it is impossible for me.

This snack is way too easy to make if you have everything in your pantry. Simply melt butter, peanut butter, and chocolate chips together. Then pouring that amazing chocolatey sweet mixture over Chex cereal.

I like to use Corn Chex it is a bit sturdier in my opinion. However, if you have Rice Chex or even Chocolate Chex they will work as well. If you are pretending to be healthy, Wheat Chex could be used. (The healthy thing – that was a joke.)

Stir well to coat every cereal bite with the chocolate mixture. Place the powdered sugar in a zip-close bag or paper bag. Then dump the chocolate cereal mixture in.

Seal it up and shake well to coat the chocolate-covered pieces with powdered sugar. Pour into a bowl or onto a baking sheet after shaking.

Puppy Chow Recipe Chex

I quickly learned that making a whole batch of puppy chow was a one-way ticket to a bellyache. It doesn’t matter if I’m already full as can be, there was always room for one more bite.

  • semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • butter
  • Corn Chex cereal

How to Make Puppy Chow

I am pretty proud of my small-scale version of puppy chow. Just don’t even ask how many batches I make in a day or week. I will never tell. The steps are super simple:

  1. Combine the peanut butter, chocolate chips, and butter in a mixing bowl. Heat in the microwave for 60 seconds. Remove from the microwave and stir until smooth.
  2. Add the cereal to the chocolate mixture and stir to coat thoroughly. Place the powdered sugar in a quart-size zip close bag and add the chocolate-covered cereal. Seal the bag and shake well to coat.
  3. Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container until ready to eat.

Sweet Snacks

When the craving for something sweet hits, I love a good snack vs. a slice of cake or bowl of ice cream. Give me something “munchy”. I know not the best habit but let me share some of my favorites.

Strawberry Puppy Chow snack mix is a sweet and crunchy treat that’s perfect for party favor bags and snacks.

Crunchy popcorn, salty pretzels, and mini peanut butter cups covered in peanut butter caramel and generously drizzled with chocolate and peanut butter make up this absolutely irresistible snack.

Sweet dips with pretzels, fruit, or graham crackers are the best. Light and creamy pumpkin cheesecake dip swirled with Nutella, because chocolate and pumpkin are my favorites!

Creamy, nutty, and just a little bit salty, these 4 Ingredient Cheese Balls are incredibly simple to throw together, perfect for elevating your next charcuterie night.
