Blueberry Milk

Move over chocolate, there’s a new player in the flavored milk lineup. Fresh blueberries are a total game changer. Sweet and tangy, they bring such a refreshing taste to each sip.

This is a great way to treat the kids on a hot afternoon. And, it goes well with pretty much any breakfast or brunch. I like to keep stuff like this on hand in the fridge, as it is a simple way to spruce things up without redesigning the menu.

I have fond memories of making chocolate milk and strawberry milk at my grandma’s house, using Nesquik powder. Each glass was almost like a shake after she mixed them.

This blueberry milk is lighter than those drinks I remember. It is still sweet and delicious, but not overwhelmingly so. I tend to enjoy it with just enough syrup to let the blueberries shine through. If you prefer it sweeter, use more syrup.

Blueberry Milk Recipe

Start by combining the berries, sugar, and water in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Then, bring to a boil before reducing to a simmer. Gently smash the berries as they simmer for about 5 minutes.

Place a fine mesh sieve over a bowl or pitcher next to the stove. Then, pour the berry mixture through the strainer. Discard the berry pieces from the strainer.

Add the milk to the strained berry syrup and stir to combine. Allow the blueberry milk to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled and ready to serve.

The syrup will keep in the fridge for a couple of weeks, so if you already have blueberry syrup on hand, you’re in luck. Just stir in a tablespoon or two to each glass of cold milk.
