Blueberry Lemonade

Everyone loves a frosty glass of icy cold lemonade when the weather gets hot, but sometimes it’s fun to change it up a bit. In just about every blueberry dessert (think Blueberry Grunt or Lemon Blueberry Bread or Blueberry Lemon Bars) there’s lemon to set it off, so it seemed a natural step to use blueberries to enhance lemonade.

It’s delightfully refreshing and the sweet blueberries add a little unexpected and subtle floral quality to the lemonade. While that is enough to recommend it for me, it sure doesn’t hurt that it’s really pretty, too.

You can use either frozen or fresh blueberries in this recipe. Either will work fine.

I do recommend using freshly squeezed lemon juice rather than bottled lemon juice, though. It just plain tastes better for lemonade.

Blueberry Lemonade Recipe

Bring sugar and 1 cup of water to a boil. Stir until the sugar has dissolved. Add the blueberries and simmer until the berries begin to burst, pressing gently with a wooden spoon as they cook.

Place a fine mesh sieve over a bowl next to the stove. Pour the berry mixture through the strainer. Discard the berry pieces caught in the strainer.

In a large pitcher, combine the blueberry syrup, lemon juice, and the remaining 4 cups of water. Stir to combine and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Fill glasses with ice and then fill each one with blueberry lemonade. Garnish with fresh berries, mint sprigs, and a lemon slice, if desired.

Honey Peach Lemonade is quick, simple, and refreshing. Just five minutes, four ingredients, and a blender are all you need.

There aren’t many things that top a cold glass of lemonade on a hot summer day, but this Strawberry Lemonade is one of them. And if you’re like me and prefer your drinks a bit less sweet, homemade is the way to go.

You can control the sweetness, and if it’s a lazy summer night, no one is going to judge you for adding a splash of vodka to your glass. Spiked lemonade? That’s a happy recipe for porch-sitting with friends and family on a Friday night.
