Ingredients

PIE INGREDIENTS

  • 1 prepared pie crust homemade or store-bought
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup all purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • teaspoon salt
  • 8 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream or evaporated milk

TOPPING INGREDIENTS

  • ½ cup flour
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup butter cold

Instructions

  • Prepare the pie crust and place it inside a deep pie pan. Set aside. Preheat oven to 425° F. Mix the sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt together in a large bowl. Add the thinly sliced apples and gently toss to combine until all apples are coated. Arrange the apples in the pie crust and carefully pour the cream over the apples
  • To make the crumb topping, in a small bowl, stir together the flour and brown sugar. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until pea sized. Sprinkle the crumb topping over the apples.
  • Bake for 50 minutes. Keep an eye on the pie for the last 15 minutes and gently set a sheet of foil over the top of the pie, if the pie browns too quickly.
  • Let cool at least half an hour before slicing. Serve warm or cold with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.
