Creamy, lightly sweetened Candy Cane Dip is the perfect addition to a dessert cookie display or holiday snack tray.
Candy Cane Dip
Have you heard about the candy cane dip at Walmart? Several people have mentioned it to me recently, so I decided it was time to check it out.
It turns out, it is delicious. Truthfully though, it’s a bit sweeter than I typically like in a snack or even a dessert, so as I often do, I decided to play with a copycat recipe that balanced that sweet a bit.
The homemade candy cane dip is easily made with cream cheese, heavy cream, sour cream, and sugar. It’s flavored in a terrific holiday way with peppermint extract and crushed candy canes. I may have dove in with a sliver of dark chocolate – oh my word!!
The store-bought candy cane dip does have a few more ingredients, as most processed foods do, to preserve freshness. And it’s colored bright pink with a bit of red dye. So, feel free to add some food coloring, if a bright pink dip makes you grin.
I’m happy to tell you that I like this dip even more than the Walmart version and I LOVE that it isn’t quite as overwhelmingly sweet. If you love that sweet dip and don’t want to change a thing? Just add the extra sugar listed in the recipe.
Peppermint Dip
There are so many tasty things with which you can serve candy cane dip. I would suggest a dessert tray or board if you feel so inclined.
Serve with your favorite cookies: chocolate or vanilla Oreos, graham crackers, shortbread cookies, vanilla wafers, animal crackers, or gingersnap cookies work well.
Add on some candy canes, chocolate kisses, and tuck in some buckeyes or truffles for a holiday dessert display everyone will love!
Candy cane chocolate sandwich cookies are awesome with this dip if you can find them in a nearby store. (I stock up every year when the Candy Cane Joe’s show up at Trader Joe’s.) Mint Oreos are an easy year-round option too.
Pretzels and pretzel chips are another great option for a salty-sweet combination. The list is literally endless! I could keep adding all day, I better stop.

Peppermint and candy cane flavors are the ones that pull me in every single time. I always buy extra candy canes to keep on hand to make treats after the holidays. However, Starlight mints work great as well and are easy to find year around.

These festive candy cane cookies are so cute, and they make for the perfect holiday treat. They are made by twisting together red and white cookie dough to form the shape of a candy cane. The addition of peppermint flavor in the sugar cookie dough makes these cookies not only look like a candy cane but taste like one, too!
