Tender and moist, richly flavored with vanilla and cream cheese, this old-fashioned pound cake recipe is about to become a favorite in your kitchen!
Vanilla Pound Cake
This is an easy vanilla pound cake just like grandma used to make. With a rich vanilla and cream cheese flavor, it’s just sweet enough to satisfy without being overwhelmingly rich or sweet.
This dense, rich, moist cake can be sliced incredibly thin – making it perfect for snacking. Who can resist shaving off tender pieces of pound cake, just a bite or two at a time?
I found this recipe in several of my old church cookbooks, so I figured this simple 6 ingredient recipe was worth trying. And it most definitely is!
Random fact, I also found this recipe in an Amish cookbook and was a bit confused, as I’ve never known an Amish family to use an electric mixer. Does anyone have an explanation for that? Maybe those women just have the strongest arms ever and can beat the ingredients just as well by hand?
Cream Cheese Pound Cake
You’ll need the following ingredients for this recipe:
- cream cheese
- butter
- vanilla extract
- eggs
- sugar
- cake flour
Old Fashioned Pound Cake Recipe
Preheat the oven to 300°F. Combine the cream cheese and butter in a mixing bowl and beat to combine. Add the vanilla.
While beating, add 2 eggs, 1 cup of sugar, and 1 cup of flour. Repeat until all of the eggs, sugar, and flour are used.
Lightly brush a 12-cup bundt pan, or (2) 6-cup bundt pans, with vegetable oil and then pour the batter into it.
Bake the 12-cup bundt cake for approximately 90 minutes OR bake (2) smaller 6-cup bundt cakes for about 70 minutes.
Allow the cake to cool COMPLETELY before inverting and removing from the pans. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.
Have you tried a mayonnaise cake? Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake is another old fashioned recipe that was likely in your grandmother’s recipe box. My best friend’s mom often made this cake when we were growing up.
I remember the first time she told me it was a “mayonnaise cake.” I’m certain that I stared at her like she was crazy. Luckily, it turned out to be a fantastic chocolate cake!
