Slightly sweet and tangy, apple grape salad is a fast and fresh-as-can-be fruit salad with creamy dressing that you’ll want all summer long. You can’t go wrong pairing this with any and all grilled and roasted meats or with a sandwich for a quick meal that satisfies.
Apple Grape Salad
I happily serve and eat fruit salads all year round, but there’s no food that refreshes quite like a fruit salad when the weather is hot! From the brunch and potluck staple classic fruit salad like Honey Lime Fruit Salad to more dessert like Pineapple Salad and Cherry Fluff, there’s something for everyone.
Apple grape fruit salad is unique in the category, though, because it’s comprised of budget friendly fruits you can find even in the smallest local grocery stores all year. And the dressing is delightfully different, too. Let me tell you about the dressing!
Creamy Fruit Salad Dressing
This salad dressing is a tiny bit tangy, slightly sweet and I don’t think anyone has ever tasted it who didn’t love it – nor could they figure out what is in it.
Sweetened sour cream is soooooo tasty and comes with benefits! Aside from the calcium that most dairy products have in abundance, some brands of sour cream add probiotics back in after pasteurization.
Apple and Grape Salad
To make this fruit salad, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- Granny Smith apples
- green grapes
- red grapes
- pecans
- sour cream
- sugar
- vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
Granny Smith apples are a natural choice for this salad since they hold well in storage all year. This means you can still find them with good snap mid-summer when many other apples have gone mealy.
If your store is out of Granny Smiths, Empires, Snapdragons, and Honeycrisps are all good alternatives. Likewise, if you can’t find both colors of grapes, feel free to sub in an equal amount of the variety you can find as needed.
While vanilla extract and vanilla bean paste work equally well, they will have slightly different results. Vanilla extract lends a more subtle flavor while vanilla bean extract packs more of a vanilla punch.
Apple Grape Fruit Salad
In a large mixing bowl, stir together the sour cream, sugar and vanilla. Add the apples, grapes, and pecans to the bowl and stir to coat. Serve immediately or chill until ready to serve.
