Chocolate Salami
Chocolate Salami is made of crumbled cookies, chopped, and toasted nuts, suspended in creamy chocolate that resembles salami. This delightfully different dessert is served in many parts of the world.

- 16 Biscoff cookies or Vanilla Wafers
- ¾ cup toasted nuts: walnuts pistachios, hazelnuts
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
- ⅓ cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon Frangelico Amaretto, Kahlua, or other liqueur OPTIONAL
- 1 cup powdered sugar for coating
Break or gently crush the cookies into roughly ½-inch pieces. Transfer the cookie pieces and crumbs to a large mixing bowl and add the nuts.
Combine the chocolate chips and heavy cream in a small glass bowl and microwave at 50% power for 1 minute. Stir and microwave an additional 30 second increments at 50% power. Stir again until smooth and add the liqueur if desired. Stir to combine.
Pour the chocolate over the cookies and nuts and stir well to combine. Taste the mixture and add salt only if needed.
Place two sheets of plastic wrap on the counter and divide the mixture onto them. Roll the plastic tightly around the chocolate and press into a shape that resembles a salami. Twist or wrap the ends tightly and refrigerate until firm, at least 4 hours or overnight.
When the chocolate salami is firm, place the powdered sugar on a plate and remove the salami from the plastic wrap. Roll the salami in the powdered sugar and then brush off any excess sugar. Slice into ½-inch thick pieces.
Store in an airtight container. Refrigerate or freeze until ready to serve.
Italian Chocolate Salami is typically made with tea biscuits, but they are nearly impossible for me to find locally. I've found that Biscoff cookies or vanilla wafers work just as well, and we enjoy making ours this way with the much more accessible ingredients.
If the nuts you're using are unsalted, add ⅛ teaspoon of kosher salt to the recipe.
