Ingredients

  • 1 cup melted butter divided
  • 15.25 ounces package devil's food chocolate cake mix (I use Duncan HInes.)
  • 3 eggs divided
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup pecans chopped

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350º. Lightly grease a 9x13 baking pan with butter.
  • In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, 1 egg, and 1/2 cup melted butter. Stir well. Spread mixture into the prepared pan and set aside. Place the cream cheese in a mixing bowl and beat with an electric mixer until smooth.
  • Add the remaining 2 eggs and the cocoa powder. Slowly pour in the remaining melted butter and the vanilla, continuing to beat until smooth. Add the powdered sugar and continue beating until well combined.
  • Stir in pecans. Spread the filling over the cake mixture in the pan.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes. Be careful not to overcook the cake; the center should still be a little gooey when finished baking. Let the cake cool for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Walnuts may be substituted for the pecans in this recipe.
