15.25ouncespackage devil's food chocolate cake mix (I use Duncan HInes.)
3eggsdivided
8ouncescream cheesesoftened
3tablespoonscocoa powder
3cupspowdered sugar
1teaspoonvanilla extract
1cuppecanschopped
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350º. Lightly grease a 9x13 baking pan with butter.
In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, 1 egg, and 1/2 cup melted butter. Stir well. Spread mixture into the prepared pan and set aside. Place the cream cheese in a mixing bowl and beat with an electric mixer until smooth.
Add the remaining 2 eggs and the cocoa powder. Slowly pour in the remaining melted butter and the vanilla, continuing to beat until smooth. Add the powdered sugar and continue beating until well combined.
Stir in pecans. Spread the filling over the cake mixture in the pan.
Bake for 40-45 minutes. Be careful not to overcook the cake; the center should still be a little gooey when finished baking. Let the cake cool for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Walnuts may be substituted for the pecans in this recipe.
