I've been grilling corn in a similar manner for years, but two things I'd recommend: 1) don't cut the silk off the top of the ear - just pull it with a twist. That gets most of it and the rest will come off the cooked ear with the husk. 2) always soak the whole ear (at least 15-20 minutes) before grilling to prevent the husk from burning before the kernels are cooked. It's not essential, but avoids most of the charred husk in the kitchen when you prepare it for the table.

I’ve grilled corn this way for years but I like to soak them for a while so they steam in the husk without it burning too much. Otherwise exactly the same method.

As explained in the post, grilling the corn inside the husk will allow the silks to fall away with the husk after grilling. It's a simpler method that we like to utilize.

"Next, cut off the silk at the top of the ear along with any loose bits of husk" WHat?? This method doesn't get rid of all the corn-silk left under the husk. Every single corn I've shucked/cleaned/grilled/roasted has plenty of silk beyond the tip as your photo shows. Cutting off the silk at the top of the ear will leave you with a mouthful of silk, I guarantee you.
