In reply to Joy. I have never tried making this cake with Miracle Whip. However, it contains the same eggs and oil as mayo, so I'm guessing it will work pretty much the same as mayo for this purpose. Technically, it's a tangier dressing with a bit of extra flavoring and vinegar added to it, but my guess is that those flavors will not carry through in a chocolate cake. That said, I haven't tested it personally.

My mother always made this cake and she actually called it wacky cake! I am so glad to find this recipe as I lost hers.

My mom would make this for us kids when we wanted something sweet. She put the powdered sugar on it as we usually couldn’t afford frosting. This was the cake I always wanted for my birthday. Simple to make and oh so moist and delicious.

In reply to April. I've used Hellmans, Best Foods, and Duke's. I don't think it matters. Is there any chance it over-baked a bit? That could've dried it out.

I made this today. I followed the recipe but the cake seemed a bit dry. Not sure why. Does it matter what brand mayonnaise you use? I was really trying to make a special cake for my boyfriend who’s mom used to make it when he was younger…
